In Mich Cota’s clip for “Kijà / Care,” traditionalism is subverted. The featured dancers are part of a spectrum of races, creeds, and identities, directly fighting the symbolic oppression of the brick wall behind them. The barrier surrounds a convent in Montreal, which the band describes as “harbour[ing] a religion that attempts to suppress and erase Aboriginal peoples lives.” Mich Cota, then, fights power with power.
