I used to think the music video was dead. (I used to think indie was dead too, but I recognize my own cynicism.) Provocative, intriguing, and relevant music videos are tough to come by these days, especially in the indie scene; this isn’t because young and underground musicians can’t be visually creative, but rather because the best video equipment costs money that starving artists don’t have. I’m not entirely sure how Andy Oliveri & the Mountaineers accomplished the feat that is their clip for “Where Wild Flowers Grow Fondly,” but it is a beautiful mix of gorgeous cinematography and situational awareness that complement the fuzzy track perfectly. Their debut album, Call the Brothers, will drop 2/17 on Istartedthefire Records.
