YACHT X !!! X Community
I’ve been going to the Regent since October 2015, when I covered Deerhunter and Atlas Sound for Grimy Goods. Not that I’ve attended all that many shows there since; I had side gigs that placed me at the Regent just as many times as I actually enjoyed a concert. It’s a great venue. I used to hide upstairs and become irrationally mad at the living … Continue reading YACHT X !!! X Community
A Whirlwind with Photay and Maral
If I didn’t know better I wouldn’t have noticed that the theater at 2220 Beverly in Westlake was under new management. Last I heard, the Bootleg had closed during the pandemic, and that area of Beverly Blvd is fairly quiet. Brooklyn Bagels faces the venue and defunct businesses dot around them in a largely residential area. There are just enough streetlights to cast disquieting shadows … Continue reading A Whirlwind with Photay and Maral
Tom Skinner – “The Journey”
The direction of Tom Skinner’s LP, Voices of Bishara, goes off in zigs and zags, yet “The Journey” embarks on a trot with a purpose, as the song’s title suggests. The track provides a knowing respite on the record before diving further into the angles of Skinner’s mind. Megan Diana – “Whiskey Kiss”

Makaya McCraven – “Dream Another”
Makaya McCraven released a live version of “Dream Another,” a single off of his newest album, In These Times, so I listened to both for the first time. I have a deep appreciation for each; the studio version is lush and addictive while the live rendition is teeming with passion. It is more apparent McCraven’s control over the dreamy jam when you can see his … Continue reading Makaya McCraven – “Dream Another”
Sunny War – “No Reason”
Sunny War is full of contradictions, most obviously including the Nashville musician’s moniker. Also, take into account the album art and title for Anarchist Gospel—or is it more of an oxymoron? She acknolwedges the duality on the Bandcamp liner notes, in a sense: “I feel like there are two sides of me… One of them is very self-destructive, and the other is trying to work … Continue reading Sunny War – “No Reason”
