Best Songs of 2020: 4. Chloe Foy
Best Songs of 20204. Chloe Foy – “Song for D” It was a tough decision to include just one of the tracks from Callous Copper on this list, but “Song for D” gripped me too tightly to be forgotten. This voice and string ballad needs little else to convey its deep well of vulnerability. Chloe Foy | order Callous Copper EP | website | Facebook | … Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 4. Chloe Foy
Best Songs of 2020: 5. Coping Mechanism
Best Songs of 20205. Coping Mechanism – “The Internet Makes Me Feel Ugly” 2020 was the definition of sensory overload, but Coping Mechanism, aka Phillip Jon Taylor, offers a salve. Nothing like serene glitch-pop to drown out the darkness of the world (and one’s own thoughts). Coping Mechanism | order Coping Mechanism | website | Twitter | YouTube | Bandcamp Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 5. Coping Mechanism
Best Songs of 2020: 6. Tolliver
Best Songs of 20206. Tolliver – “Drugs in College” Though the production on “Drugs in College” is understated, Tolliver’s message is heard loud and clear. Grab a glass of water because partying and fucking are the only items on the agenda tonight. And maybe a misdemeanor (or three). Tolliver | SnG coverage | order ThinBlackDuke EP | website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | … Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 6. Tolliver
Best Songs of 2020: 7. Henry Hall
Best Songs of 20207. Henry Hall – “John the Dog” As far as silly music goes, “John the Dog,” and frankly the rest of Neato, ranks among the best of all time. The tale of Henry Hall’s imaginary dog pal leads us down a path to frightening self-awareness and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Henry Hall | listen to Neato | website | Facebook | Twitter … Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 7. Henry Hall
Best Songs of 2020: 8. Fish Hunt
Best Songs of 20208. Fish Hunt – “Avalanche” Fish Hunt clears great chasms of emotion during their ballad “Avalanche.” You wouldn’t think that a sensitive guitar and lazy rhythm on the kit could feel so profound, but they contain multitudes. Fish Hunt | order Staying Small | YouTube | Bandcamp Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 8. Fish Hunt
Best Songs of 2020: 9. Cut Worms
Best Songs of 20209. Cut Worms – “Sold My Soul” I needed the crooked twang of Cut Worms in 2020, and I sing along to “Sold My Soul” like I myself have made a deal with the devil. Nobody Lives Here Anymore is a comforting alt-country experience, but the Sold My Soul EP is even cozier. Cut Worms | SnG coverage | order Nobody Lives Here Anymore … Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 9. Cut Worms
Best Songs of 2020: 10. Alina Bea
Best Songs of 202010. Alina Bea – “Never” You Will Learn was a long time coming, and when I finally sat down with it, “Never” knocked me over like a ton of bricks. One thing I can always expect from Alina Bea is the unexpected. Alina Bea | SnG coverage | order You Will Learn | website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | … Continue reading Best Songs of 2020: 10. Alina Bea
