“Nothing makes me happy” sings Vancouver’s Said The Whale in the opening bars of their surprise new single, except we beg to differ. The indie rockers’ anthemic new tune certainly makes us very content, if not absolutely overjoyed. Nothing Makes Me Happy starts with the bluesy stomping energy of a Cold War Kids song before it shifts gears into Tame Impala like spacey electro splendor then settles into a roiling sea of spunky alt pop . Fellow Canadian WILLA turns in ravishing additional vocals on the whirlwind and dynamic indie jam, accompanied by luscious synth swells and an infectious urgency. A touch of funk even lurks in its lavishly crafted bosom. The sumptuous new tune follows on the heels of Said The Whale’s recent album As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide, out now via Hidden Pony Records.
