London’s Ghost Car are preparing for an album release in October, and it’s shaping up to be a fun, punk caper. Their latest video, for “Selfish, Spoiled” is a hysterically gaudy satire. In fact, the more I watched it, the more sick I felt. I love the eat-the-rich philosophy, but honestly, if we let them ingest as many toxic and inedible things as in this … Continue reading Ghost Car āĀ “Selfish, Spoiled”
I have to address the art first: I have never seen a more perfect image. It’s so colorful, yet muted by all the blues. The dolphins look so happy but I am unsettled by their three eyesāon one side. Do they even have eyes on the other side to balance? The style of the waves is incredible and creates so much movement in such a … Continue reading Anteloper āĀ “Delfin Rosado”

I find comfort in these chords. “To Turn Into Water” has gorgeous sounds including the soft, sweet guitar melody and the exquisite falsetto moment in the bridge. Last year, Ngaiire returned with an astounding record, known simply as 3. The artist nĆ©e Ngaiire (rhymes with diary) Joseph hails from Papua New Guinea and happened to create my favorite album of 2016, Blastoma; her 2021 record was no less impressive. She told NME that she was particularly focused on creating complex harmonies and backing vocals, and thatās only one detail (and fairly minor … Continue reading Ngaiire Sings from the Deepest Parts of Herself
Ghent-based Compro Oro use xylophones and guitars to comment on contemporary ways folks are digging for a new kind of gold. Band leader and composer Wim Segers created these new compositions often on piano or vibes in a more analogue way, leaving enough room for his band mates to colour each track when fine tuning the song. Segers was inspired by the world of crypto … Continue reading Compro Oro āĀ “Bitcoins”
